Sub-Contracting Sites

by John D. Sanders 15. July 2010 03:25

I have recently been trying to get some additional work through some of the sub-contracting sites like freelancer.com and rent-a-coder.com.  I must say that I am really dissapointed with them.

First, they are dominated by offshore people working at ridiculous rates.  For example, I need a full eCommerce solution and payment gateway customized to my look and feel for $40.  37 people posted that they would take the job!  For sure in this economy we need to do what we can to stay employed but after uncle sam gets his share I end up with like $25 for two weeks work.  McDonalds pays better than that!

Then there are the people who want to you write hacks, scrapers and other nefarious little pieces of code.  I am just not going to do it.

So my question is, how does a man feed his family in this industry today?  Answer: you don't.  Go work at Mc Donalds you will make more money.
